Vrbnik, town on the island of Krk. Vrbnik is one of most picturesque places on the Island of Krk. Vrbnik lies on the 49 meters high limestone hill that steeply falls towards the sea. The inland is the fertile Vrbnicko polje (vineyards, vegetables). In the small cove Zgribnica there is a swimming beach. The ferryboat that operates on the line between Silo and Crikvenica is in the vicinity.
Vrbnik was inhabited since prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages, Vrbnik was a fortress of the Frankopan family, with a statute written in the Glagolitic script, from 1388. The remains of the medieval defense wall with towers are still visible. The parish church is from the 15th - 16th century. The library of Dinko Vitezic of Vrbnik, with about 15,000 books, has also the collection of the Glagolitic manuscripts, from the 14th and 15th century, and a few incunabula.
